The Chevening Alumni made up of professionals who are beneficiaries of the Chevening Scholarship Programme for Post-Graduate studies in the UK has come up with an interesting initiative. It’s a Write and Win competition, targeted at young Nigerians!

With funding from the Chevening Alumni Programme Fund (CAPF) of the British High Commission (BHC), the Chevening Alumni Association of Nigeria (CAAN) organized this essay competition for Nigerian youth. This is part of its community service endeavors supported by the CAPF across the globe. Details of the competition are as follows:

TOPIC: ALTERNATIVE NARRATIVES TO ILLEGAL MIGRATION AMONGST YOUNG PEOPLE IN NIGERIA

With this, the association seeks to stimulate the minds of Nigerian youth into thinking up practical measures to curb the menace of illegal migration. These include ways to prevent its occurrence and alternative options to it. Key points to be highlighted in the essay should be:

  1. Preventive measures against the occurrence of Illegal Migration.
  2. Alternative options to the breaching of Immigration Regulations.
  3. Highlighting risks associated with illegal migration and encouraging the youth to follow due process if the need for migration arises.
  4. Ideas for earning and sustenance of livelihood in a legitimate manner.

Suggestions regarding the creation and harnessing of viable opportunities for youth in local environments

Chevening Essay Competition Objectives

  1. To generate helpful ideas for CAAN for future engagements with the Nigerian government, the private sector, and multilateral agencies on curbing illegal migration.
  2. To encourage Nigerian youth in discussing core trans-national governance issues, ahead of future leadership roles.
  3. To Foster deeper inter-generational learning through interactions between CAAN members and the younger generations.

Chevening Essay Eligibility

Undergraduate students in Nigerian public and private universities and other tertiary institutions of learning.

Essay Guidelines

  1. The essay should not be more than 2000 words, including reference.
  2. Originality is paramount; the essay will be subjected to credit reference checks.
  3. The essay should be typed and double-spaced.
  4. Appropriate use of examples and illustrations.
  5. Should be creative and engaging, with realistic solutions to the migration saga.
  6. Comprehensive prose narration.

Deadline: 18th January 2021.
