Preamble

STEM is an acronym that stands for science, technology, engineering, and Mathematics. It is a recent term used to group these academic disciplines and address education policies and curriculum choices to enhance competitiveness in the science and technology development sphere.

Over the years, academic, research, and developmental organizations have coordinated efforts into STEM education across the world. Due to its significance in the development of communities, industries, and developing economies, and its instrumentality in innovation across sectors, which are not limited to education (academia), manufacturing, agriculture, entrepreneurship, finance.

Voices in STEM Nigeria (VISNG) is one of such establishments that shared in this goal; encouraging the development of STEM Education in Nigeria. 

This year, VISNG calls for applicants for partaking in the first edition of its series of essay competitions. Students pursuing STEM-related programs across accredited Nigerian tertiary institutions can submit their realistic solutions to the nation’s economic recovery of Post-Covid-19.

VISNG Essay Competition Theme

This year’s theme for the VISNG is:

“From Pandemic to Performance: The role of STEM in Nigeria’s economic recovery”. Interested Candidates are required to display their ideas on how to implement ideas from STEM knowledge and provide a realistic solution to recover the country’s economy after the COVID-19 pandemic. 

VISNG Essay Competition Eligibility

To be eligible for the VISNG ESSAY Competition 2021, applicants must;

1. Nigerian by nationality 
2. Reside in Nigeria
3. A Student of any higher Institution in Nigeria Presently in HND I and II or 300, 400, 500, or final year studying STEM-related course/program.
4. Have the ability to link the knowledge acquired to proffer realistic solutions to the economic recovery of Nigeria post-COVID-19.

VISNG Essay Deadline Dates

The VISNG Essay competition 2021 is currently ongoing and the submission deadline is Sunday,28th February 2021. The final results will be announced to the candidates on Wednesday, 31st March 2021

Benefits & Prizes of VISNG Essay Competition

The benefits based on the position are:

• 1st Prize: N50,000, 
• 2nd Prize: N25,000,
• 3rd Prize: N10,000,
• Others: Consolation Prizes.

Submission Guidelines

The following are the guidelines the participant’s entries must contain;

• First Name and Surname, 
• Email Address, 
• Higher Institution (Level), 
• Participant’s Present HOD’s Name, 
•  Name of Participant’s Level coordinator/ Academic adviser, 
• The font of the entry should be Times New Roman, Size 12, and double spacing, 
• The Entry should not be more than 350 words.
