I didn't Pass BUKAT What Next?

Some failures are blessing in disguise.

Sequel to the just concluded BUKAT, Students were complaining of failure and making a bad decision towards their future. This article will guide you on how to face failure and make a better decision towards your academic career.

Failure is only a failure if you decided not to try again and accept defeat. In every competition, there must be winners and losers. If you appear as a loser, it doesn’t mean that you did not win, or you are not capable of winning. It only means that someone is better than you or someone prepared more than you did. BUKAT is no exception. It is the battle of getting admitted into Bayero University Kano. The fact that every faculty has its own cutoff mark, it doesn’t mean that all the aspirant that wrote the test are qualified. Some aspirants that applied for another course of study and couldn’t make the requirement will be admitted into your own course that you applied for and couldn’t make the requirement. Judging from statistics, BUK admits about 60% – 70% of students that applied for it yearly. Pray and be among the lucky ones.

What to do if you are not admitted

While registering for UTME, there is always room for selecting polytechnics and monotechnics. This will let you explore your options. A lot of people that made it today go through polytechnics or monotechnics. It is never a crime to go through other means of education. University is not the only route you can follow to get an academic education. You can apply DE after your ND or, you can complete your OND and go through HND then later on you do your PGD. There are other A level programs one can venture into such as; IJMB, and Remedials. After you make your A level programs, It’ll give you an upper hand to be admitted into the university. The fact that you tried once and couldn’t make should be your drive when you are trying the second time. Plan, prepare and persevere. Success shall be yours in the end.

How to overcome failure

Success or failure occurs when you venture out of your comfort zone. The more success that comes your way, the more failure you will face. And failure is inevitable. Unless you don’t do anything, failure is something you must face. Therefore, handling failure or overcoming it is a must to live successfully. Below are steps you can handle failure;

  • You have to accept it and move on. Understand that everybody at some point in time experiences failure. Failure is bitter, but it is not the opposite of success. Failure allows you to learn, improvise and make you a better person who is worthy of success.
  • Develop hope after failing and see that things are possible if you try them once again. If you see the list of most of the successful men today, one way or the other, they experienced failure. But they were hopeful and it kept them going.
  • Learn from your mistakes and be better. The reason people fail is that they are not good enough or the other people they compete with are better than them. Learn from your mistakes and answer the question of why you failed and work on it.
  • Ignore the public perception towards you when you fail (naysayers). Focus on improving yourself and pay attention to what you want to achieve
  • It’s now time you go back and start over but this time around you know what works and what doesn’t.

You have to understand that your failure today doesn’t mean you’ll fail again. If you work harder, you’ll emerge successfully. Failure is a lesson, learn from it and improve yourself. You will be successful.
