To be honest, I selected Beyero University Kano as my first choice not because I like or even knew about the university, but because I was in love with a beautiful Kano lady.
Funny and crazy right? Yes, but that has been one of the best decision of my life.
Prior to leaving secondary school, I fell in love with a beautiful Hausa kano lady which was my junior in SS2 class. Our love was so strong that we could do anything for each other.
We studying in the Western part of Nigeria, we both knew the time will come when we both have to part ways because she might be asked to come back to Kano her home town after her secondary school.
Me being a lover boy, I told her to select the best university in her state for me to register as my first choice. She selected Beyero University Kano for me and I agreed
I was keen to follow her to whatever place destiny takes us to. she was not my first love but she was the lady I loved the most as at then.
I wrote my JAMB and UTME scaling through with just a pass mark (182 in JAMB and 164 in UTME). I never read for any of those exams though. I was a good student, all I did was just with my little SS3 knowledge.
Computer Engineering was the course I wanted but I was given another course in the department because of my low performance (let my people go).
I was not too happy about the course and I planned to change it before entering level 200.
Resuming academic section, the first lecture I attended was MTH1301, the lecture gave us a shocking welcoming speech by saying:
“Welcome to the Engineering Faculty!
Things won’t be easy here, you should switch to Education or Geography now because the higher you go, the harder it will become
The earlier you switch, the better for you”
All the class screamed and laughed thinking it was a joke, not knowing things are going to be bitter and tougher in the long run.
After the lecture, I was so overwhelmed and confused because everything seems very new to me, the courses, the people, the culture, the lecturers, in fact, everything.
Continuing my love story, we were both happy that I’m in Kano and our relationship continued not until one day her Dad told her it’s time to get married.
Long story cut short, she was forced to get married to one of her relatives(Auren Dole/Auren Dangi).
Before everything ended, I promise her to be one of the best products of Bayero University as a way to compensate myself for the losses. I can’t come all the way from the West to the North without having something tangible to show for it.
That was where the story of becoming one of the best in my faculty began.
At the end of level 100, my CGPA was good but not close to first-class. It was above 4 points though. Seeing the way the entire system was, I changed my plan of switching back to Computer Engineering because all we were thought was almost the same. Also, I realise my course was one of the best course for the future
Sequel to the beginning of level 200, I through a challenge to myself that I must earn a first-class grade. Luckily, I meet some group of amazing and dedicated friends, who were excellent and passionate about achieving academic excellence.
We did back to back tutorials on difficult major courses. The level was a tough one, but due to hard work and determination, I made it to first class.
Wawuuuuuuuu. Sound delightful right? That’s what you get when you set goals and determinations
During my level 300, my goal was to strengthen my CGPA further, I tried to push my CGPA to 4.7 or above but it happens that being a first-class student is so difficult.
It’s easy to drop points and difficult to add points. However, I managed to improve my CGPA above 4.6.
I’m so proud of myself because only a few have done what I did, Moving from Second Class to First Class. What you hear in most cases is reverse the case.
Rounding up, I have set and conquer, I have worked and achieved. Dreams have come true and I’m doing fine. Now I have much bigger goals ahead of me. Maybe I might decide to share some story in future
The key takeaway from my story:
- Life will never be straight, always accept God’s plans for you
- Learn to covert disappointments, weakness and failures into strength.
- Set SMART goals
- Connect with excellent and great friends, it will help a lot.
- Believe in yourself because only you can decide “what you do now”.
- Lastly, try as much as possible to also believe in love because without love nothing exist
That’s it’s!
Now you see the reason I was not and will never be disappointed because I fell in love with a lady who leads me to my promise land. I attended her wedding and I eat sweet Jollof rice with chicken lap. I drank cock and 5alive. I enjoyed my life
