Bayero University Kano  Updates

Following the suspension of the 10-month old strike by the Academic Staff of
Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Ministry of Education’s approval
from the resumption of academic activities on the 18th January 2021, Tertiary
institutions across the nation are making adequate preparation to ensure that
whilst academic activities resume, there is also full compliance of COVID-19
safety protocols by all stakeholders.


The Management of Bayero University, Kano has taken necessary steps to
ensure that student onboard appropriately and safety admits the pandemic. The
following are major adjustments made and approved by the Senate of the
University;

– Revision of Academic Calendar for all programs – Bayero University Kano Updates

The Senate of Bayero University, at a special meeting, held on Monday 4th
January 2021 approved the completion of the 2019/2020 academic
session truncated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This follows a major
adjustment made to the 2019/2020 calendar of academic activities.

Under the adjusted calendar, undergraduates’ academic activities will
commence from Monday 18th January 2021 and end on Monday 26th
April. 2021. While academic activities for the second semester are
scheduled to start on Monday 3rd May 2021 and end on Thursday 16th
September 2021.

For Postgraduates, Senate approved that academic activities for the first
semester will start from Monday 18th January 2021 and end on Saturday,
5th June 2021. And the second semester will begin on Sunday 7th June,
2021and end on Monday 11th September 2021.

Full compliance with COVID-19 Safety Protocols as approved
by the Federal Ministry of Education

Bayero University COVID-19 Safety Protocols update
  • i. Compulsory wearing facemasks by all students, teachers, and workers within and out of the university campus.
  • ii. Temperature checks and handwashing facilities at strategic locations in all schools.
  • iii. Ensuring the constant supply of water and sanitisers.
  • iv. Enforcement of maintenance of social distancing and suspension of large gatherings such as assembly and social functions.
  • v. Avoiding overcrowding, including limitations in class sizes and hostel occupancy on campus.
  • vi. Availability of functional health clinics with facilities for isolation and transportation of suspected cases to medical facilities.
  • vii. Adherence to all other non-pharmaceutical protocols, restrictions, and containment measures as may be prescribed and approved by the PTF from time to time.

Virtual Classes for all GSP and EEP courses – Bayero University Kano Updates

In adhere to COVID-19 guidelines; the University Senate has directed
that all GSP and EEP courses for the first semester of the 2019/2020
Academic session be offered online. Students registered for these courses
are advised to follow the procedures below to access their course on
www.buk.edu.ng

  • Step 1: Log on to the University’s Website www.buk.edu.ng under Quick Links, click online courses.
  • Step 2: On the online courses portal, select your registered course under the available courses.
  • Step 3: The login screen then appears; enter your registration portal username and password. Please note; These are the same username and password used during the registration exercise.

On entry to the portal, you can download lecture notes, participate in
discussion forums and use other resources by clicking on the appropriate
buttons. If you face any problems you can contact the helpline or course
coordinator or the IT department for assistance.
