The prestigious Bayero University Kano consists of about 20 Faculties, in addition to affiliated colleges offering a variety of academic programmes. The University’s faculties are spread out in its three campuses. Most of the faculties are in the New Campus while a few are in the Old Campus. Others, offering Medical and Clinical programmes, inhabit the Aminu Kano Teaching hospital Campus.

The New Campus houses faculties of Law, Engineering, Arts and Islamic Studies, Communications, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Information Technology, Management Sciences, Social Sciences and Agriculture. On the other hand, the Old Campus, together with the Clinic Campus, accommodate faculties of Allied Health Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Clinical Sciences.

From its inception in the 1960’s, the University has expanded and progressed in leaps and bounds throughout the years. It can be inferred therefore that the university consists of a number of important sections or branches: Old Campus, New Campus, College of Health Sciences (AKTH Campus), School of Continuing Education (SCE Dala), Psychiatry Department (Dawanau), as well as many research and training centres within and outside the campuses.

Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies

The University’s Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies (FAIS) is the oldest, established in 1964. It is presently situated at the New Campus, along Gwarzo Road. The faculty offers programmes such as Bachelors of Arts in Arabic, French, English, Hausa, Foreign Languages, Nigerian Languages, History, Islamic Studies, Linguistics and Shari’ah.

Faculty of Education

Meanwhile, the faculty’s courses touch various aspects of human and societal endeavour such as Private & Commercial Law, Public Law and Islamic Law.

Faculty of Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering was established in 1978 with its magnificent building in the university’s New Campus.

Students of the various programmes in the faculty are trained in relevant sciences and techniques, as well as applying technical know-how to solving societal problems. Programmes of the faculty are:
