The Nigerian Universities Engineering Students Association (NUESA), Bayero University Kano of Nigeria chapter in collaboration with SmartBukites held its Annual quiz competition on Saturday 24th of August, 2019.

The event was attended by students from the various levels of the different Engineering departments. The major attraction of the event was the zeal the student showed in the competition.

The event kicked off with a presentation of aims and objectives of the quiz competition by the University’s president, Mr Ibrahim Dabo Salisu( from 500 Level Agricultural Engineering).

He also announced the upcoming quiz competition which will take place between BUK Level 100 and KUST Level 200 students and also addressed the SmartBukites (SMB) as a great helping hand in aiding the Competition.

This was followed by a welcome address which was given by the SMB CPO, Muhammad Abubakar Girei, A Computer Engineering. In his address, the CPO gave a brief speech about the collaboration of NUESA and SMB. He also enlightened the students on the importance and benefits of Smartbukites platform which are provisions of relevant books, summaries, and tutorials to mention a few.

COMPETITION ROUNDS

The next item on the agenda was the main competition. The moderators, Muhammad Salis, 300 Level Computer Engineering and Muhammad Abdullahi, 400 Level Electrical Engineering, explained the rules and regulations of the quiz competition.

The following department contested in the first round and the breakdown of their scores as shown in the picture;

End of Second Round

 End of 1st round:

Total scores were calculated, with Electrical and Mechanical having a tie scoring 25 marks each and Chemical, mechatronics and Telecommunication also having the same score of 20 marks each.

   End of 2nd round:

With Chemical and Mechanical having a tie of 15marks, and Electrical and Telecommunication having a tie of 5marks, some questions were asked as tie-breakers to determine the 3rd position.

 Tiebreakers for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place:

Again, with Electrical and Telecom having the same score, Question no. 17 was used as the tie-breaker. Telecom emerged as the 3rd place being able to answer the question correctly before Electrical.

Unfortunately, both Chemical and Mechanical failed the Tie-Breaker Round for the 1st place and their total scores of the 1st round and 2nd round were summed up to determine the winner. Finally, Mechanical emerged 1st with Chemical being 2nd.

After the appreciation from the president, the NUESA Speaker, Ibrahim Abubakar, 400 Level Computer Engineering, appreciate the participation of females in the quiz competition and also urged more females to be taking part in academic activities.

He gave the vote of thanks and appreciated the input of all parties involved and the parts they played in making the event a success.

Lastly, the Ardruino competition was announced by Abdulmumin Saad, Level 500 Computer Engineering. He applauded SMB for their efforts and showed his appreciation towards the idea of coming up with the SMB platform
