Course Description

The science of what things are made up of and how they are made is needed. This knowledge will be used to develop a better material with super qualities which will substitute the current ones. This course will expose students to the science of materials. Below are the topics to be covered;

  • Atoms
  • Atomic Packing Factor of (BCC and FCC)
  • Planes
  • Directions
  • etc

A cylindrical specimen of a nickel alloy having an elastic modulus of 207 Gpa original diameter of 10.2mm experiences only elastic deformation when a tensile load of 8900N (2000 Ibf) is applied. Compute the maximum length of the specimen before deformation if the maximum allowable elongation is 0.25mm (0.010 in)
